Product Description

David Islam begins this 1 minute and 51 second video lesson by having Sierra perform the cross cut lunge exercise outlined in his “Cross Cut Hip Placement Direction and Flow” lesson. In that exercise, Sierra performs a series of lunges around a circle on her left leg, making sure that her body is rotated toward the center of the circle and her right hip is pushed forward as she strokes so that both hips are squared.

Next David has Sierra perform a series of chasses. Her arms are up, her left arm is back and again, she drives her right hip forward as she pushes back with her right leg. Next Sierra performs cross cuts, again keeping her right hip forward.

David summarizes by explaining that our hips are our engines and we always want out engines driving on a circle. Sometimes when we perform cross cuts and chasses we tend to open up with our hips, and this should be avoided. If we maintain a strong rotation with our core, keep our arms straight to each side and drive our right hip forward as our right leg pushes backward, we not only look good on the ice, we increase our power and control and the efficiency of our flow.
