Lutz Jump Using A Line

Product Description

Michelle uses the painted line to help teach the proper way to execute a Lutz jump in this 2 minute and 48 second video lesson. She instructs skaters to imagine a circle centered on the line. Beginning at the line, she instructs us to execute a series of back cross cuts on the first half of the circle and then once we reach the line we step onto a back outside and glide until we’ve completed the second half of the circle and are once again at the line. Once you are able to maintain a nice back outside edge on one foot, pick into the ice with your free leg and execute a small too-footed jump upon returning to the line. This jump should be up and down, with no rotation in the air and you should be landing on your toe picks with both feet together. The important thing is to become comfortable with the feeling of picking from an outside edge.

Once you can do this comfortably, try adding half a rotation to your jump. Michelle stresses that the entire exercise is executed on outside edges.
