A Walk In The Park Brian Orser

Product Description

Brian begins this 2 minute and 7 second video lesson by telling skaters that most exercises are done on a curved path, but that this one will be skated in a straight line. He tells the skaters that this exercise helps with balance, knee bend, and rhythm and is great for keeping the core nice and strong.

The reason Brian calls this exercise, “A Walk in the Park” is that it should have the natural feel and arm swing of a casual walk. In his demonstration, he places one foot flat onto the ice while swinging the opposite arm forward. As he switches sides he encourages the skaters to join him and to click the heel of their blade against the ice as their skating foot swings forward and off the ice and is replaced by the opposite foot.

He then stops the skaters and asks them to march in place and swing their arms as they would if they were off of the ice. He has them continue stepping like this as they begin to move forward. Brian ends the exercise by having the skaters do “double time”, skate-walking twice as fast as they move across the ice.
