Death Drop Warm Up Exercise

Product Description

This video lesson begins with Tugba telling her students a joke that only 312 of her students have died doing the death drop, all because they failed to heed her advice to hit their toe picks. Of course this is untrue and merely meant to emphasize the importance of proper toe pick placement!

Tugba begins by asking skaters to extend their left skates on an outside edge before bending that knee and swiveling their blade “into the circle” and hitting their toe picks. Next she expands the exercise by having skaters swing their back leg forward. When both legs are beside one another skaters should hit the toe pick with the left before the right leg completes its swing forward and under the right arm. Note that the body should be slightly bent forward and the arms should be at the 10:00 and 2:00 positions and should rise slightly upward when the front kick occurs.

The next part is the second, or “scissor” kick. After completing the previous exercise Tugba has students bring the right leg back to the ice, bend forward at the waist with their left arm low and in front, and then kick the left leg back an upward toward the ceiling.
